When it comes to steel Martin Murphy is a specialist in steel. From the ordering of steel, planning, fabricating, and delivery he gets steel to clients. Martin joined Powell & Co in 2015 when the steel business was acquired by Powell & Co. His role as Steel Fabrication Manager involves managing a team of eight who have state of the art computer-aided machinery for processing steel jobs efficiently within tight time frames to meet construction schedules. A stand out the job was fabricating steel for an arts centre in Cardiff which was the shape of an armadillo and consisted of some unusual shapes of steelwork. It is great to see the finished steels in situ, and I take great pride in the quality of steel the team produce. Having worked in the steel industry for over 25 years Martin hopes it strengthens and for anyone coming into the sector his advice is to work hard and be flexible whilst gaining experience, the end result is very rewarding.
